Performed just once a decade, the Passion Play draws over 500,000 visitors from around the world who come to follow the story of Jesus from birth to resurrection in an expression and renewal of their faith. This seven hour play will be performed from 16 May to 4 October 2020 and what better way to experience this special event than to combine it with a magical river cruise.

Take a 21 day all inclusive journey through the ancient trade routes of Europe along the Rhine, Main and Danube rivers. Starting in Amsterdam, enjoy a leisurely journey as you cruise past green hillsides, idyllic vineyards and romantic towns on one of the 5-star Scenic Space-Ships. You will pass through the unrivalled views of the spectacular World Heritage-listed Rhine Gorge and explore the the Middle Age trade route on the scenic Romantic Road.
Along the way, you might decide to let the ‘Best of The Sound of Music and Salzburg Show’ transport you back to a magical time or be enthralled by an enchanting private evening concert featuring the timeless music of Strauss and Mozart at the Palais Liechtenstein in Vienna.
After three nights in Prague and time to explore at your own pace, you will explore Bohemia and Munich before you journey to the town of Oberammergau to witness over 2000 villagers recreate their epic performance of the life of Jesus. The following day you will return to Munich for a final day exploring and reflecting with your fellow travellers on your magnificent river cruise and Passion Play experience as the journey comes to an end.
If you have less time, or are seeking a different route, this 11 day river cruise along the Danube is another journey that will delight as you travel through Hungary, Austria and Germany on your way visit to the Passion Play. Your itinerary starts in Budapest and ends in Munich taking in the highlights of Vienna, Dürnstein, Passau and Nuremburg by river cruise before you transfer by coach to Munich, your base while you enjoy the Oberammergau experience.
In Budapest, take a guided city tour including a piano concert, or discover the Jewish heritage with an expert local guide. For breath-taking views over the Danube you might choose a guided hike to Buda Hill, or if museums, galleries and art is of more interest take the journey to nearby Szentendre, known for its museums, galleries and artists.
You are spoilt for choice when it comes to exploring Vienna and its surrounds. Take a guided tour to historic Bratislava or tour Schönbrunn Palace and witness the sheer opulence of the Habsburg Empire or perhaps stretch your legs on a guided cycling tour. Visit the Belvedere Museum, one of Europe’s most stunning Baroque landmarks. Visit a local winery for a guided tour and tasting of its fine wines in Dürnstein, while from Regensburg you can view historic Weltenburg Abbey, where you can sample beer from one of the oldest monastic breweries in the world.
Enjoy a night in Munich before you head to Oberammergau to watch the epic performance by the local residents that draws travellers from the world over to watch the seven hour play that reveals the life of Jesus. Spend your final day in Munich, where you will have time to discover more highlights of the city and reflect on this amazing journey and performance with your fellow travellers before your journey ends.
